10 sketchy fonts for web designers

Not that long ago I was looking for some nice sketchy font to use in my project. There are not so many good quality sketchy fonts so I am sharing with you ten of them I liked the most.

Tip on how to use sketchy fonts in Photoshop

Sketchy font, you guess, fits well with paper textures. Of course, there are a zillion ways you can use this fonts, limit is just your imagination. Here is an example of what you can do. I did something similar for the design I created recently.

Those are some nice typefaces. I didn’t know Rockwell in this manner! Thanks for collecting these.

I recently tried adding Sketch Rockwell to a project via sIFR. It worked as normal, but the original .ttf and the .swf sIFR font file are both about 516KB (most sIFR font files tend to weigh in at around 20KB). It took 7 or 8 seconds for the sIFR flash movie to load on my faster than average DSL connection.

I think I’ll use image replacement rather than sIFR for this particular font.

I assume all that sketchy detail really adds to the file size. I would suspect that most of the fonts on this list could have similar file sizes which would make using them with sIFR questionable

Just thought I’d point that out if you’re considering using typefaces like these with sIFR. You might want to stick to image replacement if the file sizes are too big

I just happen to be working on a redesign of one of my sites and might use one of those for the logo… thanks!

    Thanks for the fonts.

However I’m more interested in the font that you used in the last picture. You know where you demonstrate how you can use them.

Which font did you use for "or you can play…."

    Best regards
    Geert

I’m cool with this fonts, but I think they look awfuly forced when a letter repeats and you can see it’s a premade font. For hand written stuff, come on, if you’re a true designer, grab a pencil and just do it

  16. Janko 9. September 2008 at 19:46

    Geert, it’s Reprobate > http://www.dafont.com/reprobate.font

@TheAdMad: I don’t have anything against using premade typography. These fonts are made to be used by web designers. Hand written letters are fine as well, but it depends on what you want to create.

Great collection, it’s hard to search for the right font sometimes, so I love to see collections like this. It’s something I’ll probably refer back to when choosing a font…

I Love Sketch Rockwell. I had it a few years back and bought a new computer and couldn’t find the font. I’ve been looking for it for days but had forgotten what it was called. Thanks! There are a lot of handwritten fonts but your selections here are top-notch!

I really like the quirky style of Pointy. FFF Tusj is also very cool. I love to see hand created typefaces they do not always look as professional as computer generated typefaces but they certainly have a stronger feeling of being playful and free when it comes to design.

Usually I’m a little scared of free fonts because of all the tweaking they require but this is a solid little collection. Thanks so much!
