About me

My name is Janko Jovanovic and I am a UI designer, software engineer, blogger, speaker and artist. I started programming in 1989 and had a successfull career as a developer and software architect. But during the years, a passion for design and involvment in user interface design prevailed over technoloogy and I slowly shifted to design. Today, my work is focused mainly on designing web user interfaces. This involves sketching, wireframing, prototyping, designing, testing and sometimes even developing user interfaces.

As I learned about UI design I started to understand the importance of user-centric design and inevitably got interested in user experience design. Every day I learn and discover new things which I try to incorporate into my everyday work. I work mostly in teams according to agile methodologies, especially Scrum.

I am also passionate about art and so far I made around 200 paintings and drawings, somw of which you can find on my flickr photostream. Besides this, I also speak at public events in my region, usually about web development and design. I am happily married to Milica and a proud father of little Mateja and Sofija.

About blog in warp speed

I started this blog in the beginning of 2008 with the idea to share my knowledge in web development and experiment with new ideas. It was a good start, but I broaden the scope since then and included topics related to my everyday work. I write about user interface design, but I also love to experiment with HTML, CSS & jQuery so there are a tons of tutorials. I've also published many freebies including Sketching&Wireframing Kit and several icon sets among which Handycons sets are the most popular.

Why warp speed?

I'm not a geek who adores SF if that was your first thought, although I love space exploration. Warp speed is an ideal metaphor for my life and work. Shortly, warp speed represents the speed faster than light. Although not yet accepted by science, it is indeed an interesting concept which I use to achieve my goals :)
